keeping children safe online during school closure

Keeping children safe online

All schools should be doing what they reasonably can to keep all of their children safe online. At Thameside Primary, children and staff should adhere to the ICT code of conduct in the same way as if they were in school, including the rules on acceptable use of technologies, staff pupil/student relationships and communication including the use of social media. The policy applies equally to any existing or new online and distance learning arrangements which are introduced.

Any child can raise concerns to their teacher and there are also some good websites for age appropriate practical support:

Childline – for general support
UK Safer Internet Centre – to report and remove harmful online content
CEOP – for advice on making a report about online abuse

Thameside Primary is primarily using Purple Mash for Years 1-6 and Tapestry for Foundation Stage, and access to these learning platforms is restricted to members of our school.

Parents and carers may choose to supplement the school online offer with support from online companies and in some cases individual tutors. If you choose to do this, please make sure you use a reputable organisation/individual who can provide evidence that they are safe and can be trusted to have access to children. Support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online includes:

Internet Matters – for support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online
LGfL Online safety matters – for support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online
NSPCC – for support for parents and careers from the NSPCC
Parent on-line information Parent info – for support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online
Think U Know – for advice from the National Crime Agency to stay safe online
Safer Internet Centre advice – advice for parents and carers

If you have any concerns you should raise these with Mrs Greenaway who is the school Designated Safeguarding Lead: head@thameside.reading.sch.uk
